Towards the SADC Free Trade Area

As the Trade Protocol of the southern African Development Community (SADC) takes effect, so customs tariffs are being removed, and as from 2008 many food imports from the region will enter Mozambique free of duty.

According to a release from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, as from January 2008 all meat, fish, eggs, cooking oil, potatoes, fruit and vegetables from other SADC states can enter Mozambique without restrictions.

Likewise, there will be no customs duties on tea, yoghurt, mineral water, paper and cardboard, footwear and tiles produced elsewhere in southern Africa.
