Uganda: Country Targets $200 Million in Flower Exports

Earnings from Uganda's flower industry are set to double in the next five years.

Currently, the industry produces 7,300 tonnes worth US$65 million for export annually. But officials in the floriculture sector say for the industry to expand and more than double, more local and foreign investors are needed to give this boost.

But luring these investors to Uganda will only depend on how fast the government can act on promises of providing support and incentives to the industry.

Just last year, Uganda lost $30 million in flower investments to Ethiopia.
